Summary of the How Much Does a Sod Pallet Weigh Video
How much does a pallet of sod weigh? Well, the 50-yard pallets is kind of the standard in Houston and South Texas. If you call someplace and ask, “how much does a pallet of sod weigh,” most of us are going to refer to a 50-yard pallet of grass that has 165 pieces of grass on it and covers 450 square feet.
We generally say that it weighs about 2500 to 3000 pounds. It does depend on the moisture content of the dirt, and some fields have a little bit more sand than others. But a safe bet is that 2500 to 3000 pounds. And if you plan on picking up grass from us, you need to come properly equipped, say, a half-ton truck for half a pallet.
If you have an F-150 or a Toyota Tundra, those trucks are only rated for, I would venture to guess, 800 to 1200 pounds or something like that. So they’re not near heavy enough to haul a full pallet of grass. We normally suggest that you haul no more than a half of a pallet of grass in those size trucks.
Full size trucks like the three-quarter ton and one ton pickups are needed for a full pallet of grass. I would have one of those if I was going to pick up a full pallet, or I would bring a trailer that’s rated to haul that weight.
With most tandem-axle trailers, meaning they have four wheels, you could haul two pallets safely. If you have an extremely heavy-duty trailer, then you can get probably haul three pallets of grass.
Been here twice to pick a pallet of St. Augustine and both times the staff was extremely helpful and quick. The grass was nice and green and a good price!

Google ReviewOur grass is very heavy. It’s got a lot of dirt on the bottom of it, and it varies from day to day. You can expect that each pallet from our farm weighs between 2500 to 3000 pounds, because of the amount of good, thick dirt that we put on the bottom of it, which a lot of people like.
That dirt on the bottom of our grass pieces makes the grass grow better and holds together better and everything. But it does make for a heavy pallet of grass.
